New Look dresses From Balenciaga
For many designers, combining sci-fi visions with flamenco undertones would spell disaster, but in Nicholas Ghesquiere’s able hands the result is anything but. Fusing iconic shapes—from New Look dresses to cocoon coats—with forward-looking fabrics like PVC and latex, the designer made a strong case for dramatically severe silhouettes. In addition to his armorlike separates in gray, black, and champagne hues, Ghesquiere unveiled a few tough-luxe accents that will no doubt dictate what we wear and see come September. On the runway, shoes came sharply pointed, and vintage-looking baubles adorned the neck and both wrists—because after all, you can never get enough of a good thing...
