Trend Prom Hairstyles

Medium Hair

One option available for girls with medium length hair is a twisted style. This hairstyle, at left, uses a simple twist technique combined with some great curls and an exotic and elegant flower to add color and pop to the hair. Yet, there are also other options for updos such as a French twist, which always looks timeless and doesn’t require super long hair, or a bun. These looks can be combined with flowers, sequins, or braided accessories to add extra interest. Still, if you don’t want an updo, you can always opt for a shiny, stick-straight blow out or loose curls and a great hair accessory. Regardless, you are sure to look great and wow everyone.

Pretty and Punk

A prom hairstyle should always express your personality. For some girls, that means going against the grain and doing something different. There are tons of options for just such an occasion. The style to the upper left is both punk and feminine at the same time. This great look can be achieved by going to a local beauty supply store and getting some temporary spray on dyes in a variety of colors. Pick up a few strands of hair and spray them individually with different colors. Then, get out the curling iron or hot rollers and make some great waves. The colors should wash out the next day. However, if waves are not your style, try a spiky updo by twisting hair at the nape of the neck, fastening with a barrette at the top and spiking the ends with a strong gel. This way you have a uniquely punk updo for the prom. With a punk hair do, it is extra important to do a trial run to make sure you look cool and not just strange. This way you can always try something else if it didn’t turn out like you planned. However, with a little planning you can express your unique style with class.

Long and Loose

Another hairstyle that a lot of girls love is the long and loose waves. This can be accomplished by simply using a set of rollers in your hair. Remember, large rollers will give you the long and loose waves and the smaller rollers will give you small, tight curls, so go for the large Velcro rollers. For additional volume, use a volumizing mouse before you begin. You may also want to use a setting spray that will hold your waves without making them hard or stiff, so that it will still look natural. However, if you want that amazing shine, you may want to try going to the salon for a shine rinse or purchasing a shine spray to put into your hair as well. Also, give your hairstyle a trial run well in advance. If you can’t get your hair the way you want it, you will still have time to make an appointment with a stylist for the day of the prom.

Sleek and Straight

This is a great style for a girl who wants to look classy, sleek and natural. Even if you have kinky curly hair, you can accomplish this style with a straightening iron or a blow-dryer, and a shine rinse or spray. The straightening iron is the easiest way to get this do, but it can also be accomplished by using a blow-dryer and a large roll brush. However, if you have never done a blow-out or straightened your hair before, you may want to ask a friend or pay a stylist to do it for you. You don’t want to risk having a bad result on the day of the prom. You want this to be the night you look fantastic and wow all of your friends!

Short and Sassy

So, you don’t have long, luxurious locks. You can still get a great prom hairstyle, just by picking great accessories to go in your short hair. At right, these two girls are using small flowered pins and an interesting tiara to make their short styles look more formal. Notice that both girls have a great hair accessory in front and a lifted look to their hair in back. While the brunette has the back of her hair curled with a small curling iron, the blonde has her hair straight and lifted by using a stiff hairspray, a blow-dryer and a roll brush. Both girls are playing with volume in the back of their hair to give the illusion of an elegant updo in their sassy short hair.

Retro Goddess

Many girls nowadays are going retro with their prom dresses, and if you are one of them, why not finish the look with a retro hairstyle to match? There are plenty of styles to choose from. However, if you have short or medium-length hair, you may want to consider soft waves like Marilyn Monroe, and if you have long hair, you can go with a retro updo like Twiggy. Either way, your retro do is sure to make you look unique and stylish for your big night. Just make sure you find a stylist that knows how to create retro styles ahead of time.
